Steve Smith became involved in after–dinner speaking when he used to tell stories about his exploits in the Yorkshire Courts. This culminated in him turning professional in 2004. Since then, he has spoken at dinners all over the country, compered a series of variety shows and award ceremonies, and travelled to speaking engagements in the USA, Hong Kong, Spain and Jersey.
He appeared regularly on BBC Radio with the great Tony Capstick, and is a regular legal commentator on Yorkshire TV. He was also chosen from 87,000 solicitors to speak at the prestigious banquet for Lord Irvine, the then Lord Chancellor, and received rave reviews.
Steve has a self-deprecating manner, with a great Yorkshire style. His material is clean, non-sexist and PC. He is not suitable for stag parties, all-male booze-ups, or people who favour bad language and gynaecological jokes. He has spoken at Women's Institutes, police forces, the Labour Party and Rotary Clubs, as well as banks, building societies, Chambers of Commerce, Masonic Lodges and golf clubs.
He is currently piloting 'An Evening with...' series with bestselling author Gervase Phinn.
